Republican leaders in Congress have pushed for open discussions of the proposed economic stimulus plan.
Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Representative John Boehner of Ohio have led a call in Congress for Democrats to hold open hearings on the spending plan to illuminate the allocation of government funds and prevent wasteful expenditures. The NY Times Reports:
“We must act in a responsible way that helps get our economy moving again, not with more pork-barrel spending that does nothing but give taxpayer money to special interests and campaign contributors,” Mr. Boehner said in a statement.
Democrats in Congress have pledged to work with Republicans to pass a spending bill, but disputes are expected over the proposed distribution of funds.
